So I have a Sarah Palin theory that I haven't heard anywhere else. It's kind of a leap but I think that the reason behind the resignation and strange press conference was jealousy for Mark Sanford's press coverage. I'm not joking. I think Palin looked at Mark Sanford's press conferences over the last week and saw something the rest of us did not.

We saw a man coming unhinged from his previous reality, his presidential aspirations crashed and burning, his political career in free-fall. I think what Sarah Palin saw was a politician whose personal story had eclipsed his political story. Moreover, I think in Palin's pathological narcissist lizard brain, she looked at this as a path to a victorious rebirth. In Palin's mind, her personal story is not a liability, but a compelling asset. If she could move the press coverage goal posts from her shortcomings in terms of a pol's grasp of policy, to the stirring personal story that she believes is her own, she can rise like a phoenix.

Rather than having to talk about energy policy, economics, foreign policy, once this final turn is rounded, she can talk about her pluck, her embodiment of American ideals and values, her status as an iconoclastic maverick. This is how she will win.

Yes, I think she is that self-absorbed and delusional. I predict she has at least one more epic flame-out in her future.
